Black Businesses Still Matter

According to Google Trends for the U.S. the search term “Black owned” reached the peak popularity during the May 31 to June 6, 2020 time period. Since then, the interest over time for the search term has largely been on a downward trend, with a few spikes in June and July.

This means that since June of 2020, people in the U.S. have been using the term “Black owned” significantly less when searching on Google. This might be due to a reflection of reality. Black businesses see support during special occasions or when awareness is high and then drop when it’s no longer trendy.

When black-owned businesses are in high demand, these companies are more profitable. Showing your support helps contribute to creating entrepreneurial opportunities. When we support black-owned businesses, we are supporting black communities. So shop or use black-owned businesses whenever possible.
